Local community members are invited to come together to support the arts when Music As Language presents its third Rock for a Reason concert on August 19. Majhon Phillips, Music As Language President, says this kind of event is important because it keeps the arts alive and supports the children—and, it’s free.
This year the theme of Rock for a Reason is “A Night at the Movies,” showcasing a lineup of movie-based songs. Films including “Footloose” and “Mamma Mia” will be featured and performances will incorporate something from each movie throughout the program. Phillips anticipates the concert will be a lot of fun and a great entertainment value, and hinted that a Grammy award-winning musician will be joining the students for the performance. “We wanted to create a concert where we could blend young students with professional musicians, says Phillips. “Give them that experience.”
The 2017 Rock for a Reason concert will benefit the Morgan Hill Community Foundation and its work with the Morgan Hill Peace Project. Refreshments will be available for purchase, and a silent auction will present items and packages that have been donated by local businesses including Gilroy Gardens, La Quinta Inn, and Cinelux Theaters. Phillips described gratitude toward all of the event sponsors and noted that admission to the event is free, “It is also important to give back to the local community that has been so supportive of us.”
Music As Language opened in 2013 to provide an innovative approach to music lessons for students of all ages. Currently, students from age 2 to 85 are experiencing Music As Language’s unique learning style while attending lessons in piano, voice, guitar, drums, bass, violin, banjo, ukulele and more.
Community members are invited to get involved in the event with a sponsorship or donation by contacting Music As Language through their Facebook Events Page or via their website.
