Binational Health Conference: Fearlessly Healthy

Join us as we present FEARLESSLY HEALTHY, a conference focusing on fear within different segments of our community, its impact on physical and emotional health, and how people cope with it. Presentations for this day-long event, held October 11th at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, include:
SIREN (Services, Immigrant Rights & Education Network):
Understanding the Immigration Crisis and its Effects on Immigrant’s Health. Katiuska Pimentel will provide participants with an understanding of the immigration crisis including the rise of detention and separation of families.
Santa Clara County Office of LGBTQ Affairs: Negative Health Effects on TransLatinas. Amy Lanteigne and Isabella Garcia will describe the daily realities TransLatinas face and encourage participants to better understand and address disparities when possible.
Solutions to Violence Division at Community Solutions: Health Impacts of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking, and Coping Skills:
ArtEssential: Finding Wellness through Self-Empowerment: Alfonso Corona, Founder & Lead Facilitator, will present non-dogmatic meditation and mindfulness techniques through a series of brief, wellness-based experiences that work as useful tools to reduce stress, anxiety, fear and worry.
Foothill Community Health Center: Psychological Stress and Health Conditions of the Latin Population in Santa Clara County. Miguel Dorantes, M.D., Associate Medical Director, was born in rural Mexico, supported by his fieldworker parents. He will offer an experienced perspective on the psychological stress and health conditions of families crossing the border from Mexico to the U.S.
