Encore Theater Workshop: Directing 1.0 (ages 7-16)

We are excited to present Encore Theater Workshop: Directing 1.0, a weekly theater workshop with Kids Rule Theatre Camp founder Norm Burchard, on Monday evenings at ARTspace Annex, 217 Fifth St., for students ages 7-16 yrs old. Students in this directing class will work with young actors to produce a theatrical performance, complete with scenery, costumes, props, etc. The performance will highlight their directing skills, expertise and artistic vision of the script as they guide the actors through the theater production process. Students will leave this class with a positive attitude toward their abilities in the performing arts.
On weeks 1, 2, & 3, students will meet from 7:30-8:30 PM. Starting on October 22nd, the class will continue to meet from 6:30-8:00 PM combining with the acting workshop to begin working together on a production piece.
This class will teach students all of the skills they will need to direct a theatrical production:
Analyze the script: story, action, character development, etc.
Audition the actors for specific roles
Select your cast
Blocking the actors’ movements/action
Running effective rehearsals
Designing, building, and painting the set; lighting design, sound effects, etc.
Identifying appropriate costumes and props
Preparing for and running the final performance
The registration fee of $85 includes all workshop classes and materials. Sibling discount available!

More About the Teaching Artists- Kristy and Norm Burchard have produced the Kids Rule Summer Theater Camp for 15 years, beginning in 2002, teaching performance skills to over 2000 local children. They have introduced many young people to the performing arts in a fun and exciting way. Norm has a BA in Theater and an MA in English, and has directed ENCORE THEATER workshops for the past 13 years, where 15-20 young, enthusiastic actors develop a theatrical production, complete with set, lights, sound, and costumes, in just 6 days.
