Exploring Eastern End of Garland ~10 Miles
January 12, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm
This will be somewhat strenuous in-out hike with ~10 mile distance and ~4,000′ elevation gain.
We explore eastern end of Garland Regional Park, visiting historic Kahn Ranch and running Fern waterfalls!
East Garzas Entrance of Garland (NOT the Main Entrance) at 8:25 Am, and we promptly start hiking at 8:30 am.
To get to E Garzas Entrance:
10.7 miles on Carmel Valley Rd from Cross Roads P&R (or 1.6 miles from Garland Main Entrance Parking), turn right on Boronda Rd. Follow Boronda for 0.6 mile to E. Garzas Rd. Turn left for 0.3 mile.
Going: Up Veeder trail to Veeder Pond, then to East Ridge to Cougar Ridge down to Kahn Ranch. Follow Hitchcock Loop up and down Manzanite to Fern Falls.
Return: We retrace back to East Garzas Entrance. (if we have time, we may include Redwood Canyon trail on our return).
Layered clothing, long sleeve shirt and pants, poles, lights (just in case), snack and lunch, 1 to 2 litters of water (there’s a potable water at Kahn Ranch), electrolyte (suggested). Wind (rain) breaker.
Snow and heavy rain, we cancel.
