Let’s Learn About Improving Air Quality & CO2 Emissions

March 14, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

• What we’ll do
This is sponsored by the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club

We are excited to have Dr. Jimmy O’Dea, a Senior Vehicles Analyst in the Clean Vehicle program of the Union of Concerned Scientists speak to us on this important topic. Previously, Dr. O’Dea developed energy and climate policies for US Senator Brian Schatz and he did Postdoctoral research at Cornell University. Trucks and Buses are the next frontier for electric vehicles. Widespread adoption of electric vehicles are needed for clean air and avoiding the most severe consequences of climate change. As electric cars have become increasingly available, the next frontier for electric vehicles is trucks and buses. Heavy-duty vehicles make up a small fraction of vehicles on the road but disproportionately contribute to air pollution and global warming emissions. In California 20 percent of global warming emissions from the transportation sector, and emit more particulate matter than all of the state’s power plants.
While the media focuses on the developments of the electric car, substantial and essential progress has been made in the world of large vehicles. Dr. Jimmy O’Dea is a senior vehicle analyst with the Union of Concerned Scientist. He is knowledgeable about both the technology and the politics behind this emerging field.
