10-mile Hike to Steer Ridge, Gilroy

December 4, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join Coe Volunteers on this 10-mile moderate hike. Elevation gain about 1600 ft. Lunch at a 360-view picnic area on Steer Ridge. It’s a big hike but we go at a casual pace with time to admire views and take photos.

We start at the Hunting Hollow entrance, then walk about 2 miles north on the scenic Hot Springs Road, along Coyote Creek. Head up the Spike Jones trail on the narrow, little-used Timm Trail side route. Pass Oak and Madrone forests. Be rewarded with views northwest to Pine Ridge, and Mt. Hamilton, and southeast to the Quien Sabe Range. Gradual descent on the Jim Donnelly trail.

Heavy rain cancels: Please check your email the night before.

What to bring: Hat, sunscreen, water, snacks/lunch, rain jacket, hiking poles.

For driving directions: please visit …

Day use fee: Hunting Hollow is $6.00 per vehicle, $5 seniors. Bring EXACT CHANGE (paper bills) for the iron ranger envelopes.

Dogs: Sorry, only service dogs are allowed in Hunting Hollow.

Cautions: The Meetup trip leaders and guides are volunteers willing to share their experience in a social hiking environment. Hiking risks include ticks, poison oak, and uneven trail surfaces. Each participant is responsible for evaluating their own hiking skills and stamina to determine if this hike is suitable for them to participate.
