Black Diamond Canyon Hike
In the Eastbay Regional Parks, Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve, 5175 Somersville Road, Antioch. On this Hike we explore the Eastside of the Preserve, where you will travel through an Historic Graveyard, grassland, and have views of the bay area and the Delta, while climbing single track through canyons, cemetery, historic landmarks and a mine. Black Diamond is located in Contra Costa County, south of Pittsburg and Antioch. From the 1860s through the turn of the last century, five coal mining towns thrived in the Black Diamond area. Historic Rose Hill Cemetery, You can go to the underground visitor center in the old mine.

Total Distance: 5.2 mile, loop
Hiking Time: 3 hours
Elevation Change: 800 feet.
Parking: Fee $5
Information: Pit Toilet and Water at Trailhead, Leashed Dogs allowed, maybe off lease under control away from parking areas. Bring snacks or Lunch we will stop around mid point for a break. Water at least 2 liters.

Meeting Point / Trailhead: Drive to the Last parking lot on Somersville Road, 5175 Somersville Road, Antioch. You will see us near behind the restrooms in a grass area we will meet next to the monument and picnic table. 12 pm
Hike Route: Starting point, Trailhead upper parking lot Somersville Road, past the gate: from the parking lot we will past the gate: from the parking lot we will past the gate: Take Nortonville Trail Right, stay on Stewartville Trail down into the canyon, at the top intersection continue straight downhill on Nortonville Trail at post near the bottom (Open gate on Left) Left through Open gate on Black Diamond Trail, Left onto Coal Canyon Trail and then continue up the single track canyon, Left at Black Diamond Trail (Fireroad), stay left on Black Diamond Trail (don’t head to radio toward), Take Manhatten Trail down, then Right Nortonville Trail, then Left back to the starting point, parking lot Somersville Road. approximately 3:30pm.

From 580 east (Oakland), CA 24 towards Walnut Creek, 680 north, take Highway 4, exit south Somersville Road (Antioch), toward hills, and arrive the Preserve entrance.
From CA 4 in Contra Costa County exit Somersville Road (exit 26a eastbound/26 westbound). Drive south on Somersville to the park entrance.
From the CA 24/Interstate 680 interchange in Contra Costa County, exit Ygnacio Valley Road (exit 46b). Drive east on Ygnacio Valley Road about 8 miles, then the road changes into Kirker Pass. Continue about 5 miles on Kirker Pass to the junction with Buchanan. Turn right and drive about 3 miles to Somersville Road. Turn right and drive to the park entrance.
