Bunnell Cascade – STRENUOUS!!!
May 18, 6:00 am - 9:00 pm
Water, water and more water! That is the name of the game on this ramble. The aim is to experience massive snowmelt up close and personal on the insanely raging Merced River miles above Nevada Falls. This is a VERY long day hike starting at Happy Isles in Yosemite Valley – 25 miles round trip. Do not sign up unless you are in excellent physical condition and able to maintain a 2+ mile-per-hour pace for at least 10 hours with minimal rest. I will be careful who I allow on this hike for that very reason. As is my practice, add yourself to the waitlist and I will move you onto the hike if I am confident in your experience, stamina, endurance and, yes, your team-oriented personality. If I don’t know you and you don’t know me, call me at 559-351-9974 and we’ll get to know each other a bit.
A little bit more about what to expect: This is an exploratory hike along a river that will be roaring like a wild beast. There are places where the trail may be underwater and impassable. We shall see! Our goal is to make it at least to the first bridge and possibly beyond – if the bridge isn’t drowned by whitewater!
This is the famed Sierra runoff in all its uncontrollable splendor. If you haven’t seen this sort of power before, prepare to have your mind permanently blown.
It’s likely to be a hot day. Dress in light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, and bring a good sun hat. Also, make sure your shoes are super comfortable for the LONG mileage.
Oh, one other note! I am limiting this hike to 10 people. Hope to see you there!
