Come celebrate Halloween on the trails of Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve; costumes are optional but encouraged! Referring to an essential fuel source (coal) for the burgeoning Bay Area of the mid 1800s, Black Diamond Mines has beautiful scenery and a long-standing history of industry. The preserve traverses areas of grassland, foothill woodland, mixed evergreen forest, chaparral, stream vegetation, and exotic plantings introduced by coal miners. Join docents Susan Bernhard, Ann Reisenauer, and Veronica Chouinard for a moderately-paced hike along the Peters Creek and Long Ridge Trails. You’ll see evidence of the interesting human history of this Preserve and stop midway for a snack at the Wallace Stegner Bench to share a few inspiring words about the importance of preserving wild places.
