Madame Andree

August 13

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until August 18, 2019

“Madame Andrèe” by Andrew Sarewitz is the story of Nancy Wake, aka The White Mouse.

From her upbringing in Sydney, Australia, to her time as a journalist in Paris, to fighting for freedom and human rights against the Nazis, Nancy Wake lived one of the most fascinating lives of an (arguably) ordinary woman who became one of the greatest spies for England and France during the Second World War. At the heighth of the French Resistance, Nancy Wake was one woman among 7,000 men fighting against the Nazis in the forests of France.

One cannot help but think of Nancy Wake through contemporary, current eyes. She loved men, particularly her husband, but never allowed it to compromise her strength. She was both feminine and ass-kicking at the same time. She’d take any man down and barely smudge her Chanel lipstick in the process. She had a mouth that could make a sailor blush. All while refusing to compromise who she was as a woman. And what a woman she was.
