Point Reyes, Pablo Point, moderate 11.5 miles, 1900ft elev gain
September 27, 9:30 am - 4:00 pm
Forecast shows that next Sunday can be hot ( >90F) in majority of North, South , and East parks. I decided to pick area where should not be hot and 60-70% of hike will be in shady areas.
You ask, how about Woodward fire in Point Reyes? See map: https://www.nps.gov/pore/planyourvisit/upload/map_park_closures_200910.pdf. Majority of our hike will 3-5 miles from fire zone , although the first hour of our hike we’ll be 1-2 miles from fire zone.
Point Reyes is primary about ocean views, elks and beaches, but during this hike we won’t see ocean, it will be very remote area of Point Reyes with forest, ridges and meadows. Snakes, bobcats and deers can be seen regularly in this area.
Our meeting point – Randall trailhead. It must be enough space for parking of 4-6 cars, but carpool is highly recommended.
Our hiking plan: take Randall trail west and turn north on Olema Valley trail. Then take Bolema trail ( steep uphill) and turn South on Ridge trail. Then we’ll hike 3.5 miles along Ridge trail till we reach Pablo point ( never been there…). This trail can be overgrown, so hiking pants are highly recommended. Pablo point will be our lunch place.
We return using Texieria and Olema Valley trail. Olema Valley trail crosses creek several times and conditions of these crosses are not clear. It may be knee depth water there, so water shoes may be useful.
I don’t think we meet many hikers but you need to have mask for any case.
We are not fast hikers, hike pace: 2.5 – 2.7 miles/h with reasonable stops for pictures.
