Tennessee Valley and Beach Hike
October 13, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
Join us on an autumn saunter through Tennessee Valley on one of the Bay Area’s iconic trails.
Not too many years ago, this natural landscape nearly succumbed to a sprawl development named Marincello. But long before that, the valley was known as Elk Valley, and the beach at the end of the trail was called Indian Cove. Then came that fateful day in 1853. There lies the tale of the wreck of the SS Tennessee, her fool-hardy captain, half-crazed doctor, chest of gold, and missing “keyhole” in the cliff.
This is a moderate hike of 4 miles on a mostly level trail.
Free; RSVP required
WHERE TO MEET
We’ll assemble near the trailhead for the Tennessee Valley Trail at the end of Tennessee Valley Road. There are restrooms near the trailhead.
Bring water, snacks, dress in layers, and wear good hiking shoes. Bring poles if you normally use them.
