Local winemaker spotlighted

New releases, specials offered by local wineries

WINEMAKER OF THE MONTH Dan Martin was recently recognized in Wine Business Monthly. Submitted photo

When reading the May issue of Wine Business Monthly, I smiled when I saw Dan Martin of Martin Ranch featured as part of their “Winemaker of the Month” series. His story of how he transitioned from grocer to winemaker is worth a read. The 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake had something to do with it. You can find it online at winebusiness.com.

Sarah’s Vineyard has two fine new releases from the famed Tondré Grapefield, a spectacular vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands known for its raw horsepower and depth. In the earth-laden, statuesque 2018 Pinot Noir, you’ll find pomegranate and plum, alongside smoked beets and baking spice. The 2018 Tondré Chardonnay delivers aromas of wet river rock, dried flowers and fennel pollen, along with flavors of Tuscan melon, white fig, lemongrass and baklava.

Winemaker Greg Pearson of Creekview Vineyards said he discovered a stash of wines while cleaning out the cellar, and they’re being made available at a special price: 2013 Syrah and 2013 Merlot from Lodi are just $100 per case; $80 for club members. Call 408.686.0534 to order and arrange pickup.

MO|HI’s weekly supper series runs Wednesday through Sunday, in addition to their wine of the week. Free shipping on six bottle purchases. To order, call 408.779.4738.

Alas, partnerships don’t always work out. Alara Cellars and Jason-Stephens can no longer offer wine pickups at The Stomping Ground. Instead, they will deliver local orders to your doorstep or provide shipping. For information, email [email protected] or call 408.834.8828.
