With the first day of summer just two weeks away, it’s time to get rockin’ in the South Valley.

The Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce will present the annual Friday Night Music Series beginning June 14, 6-9:30pm at the Morgan Hill Downtown Amphitheater, 17000 Monterey St. The free series continues through Aug. 30.

Kicking things off will be The Houserockers. The 10-piece rock and soul band hails from Los Gatos, with a five-piece horn section, two guitars, bass, drums and keys.

The band, formed about 20 years ago, was named “Best Cover Band in the Bay Area” by winning KFOX Radio’s Last Band Standing contest. They perform songs from a variety of well-known bands, such as The Rolling Stones, Earth, Wind & Fire and the Beatles.

Soul Kiss continues the series on June 21. The Hollister-based band is known for its high-energy covers of rock, blues, funk and country songs.

Every Friday night, beer, wine, food and more will be available for purchase. Kiwanis Morgan Hill will donate all food proceeds toward youth scholarships.

Music begins at 6pm, featuring local youth, singing groups and duos. The opening bands will perform at 6:40pm, with headlining bands taking the stage at 7:30pm.

Downtown Live returns to Gilroy on Thursday nights from June 20-Aug. 15.

The free concerts, with bands performing a variety of rock, reggae, hip-hop and other tunes, begin at 7pm. Rock ’n’ rollers JJ Hawg will kick off the series on June 20.

In addition to live music, Downtown Live features food trucks, vendors and a kid zone, which open at 5pm.
