Realtor’s Corner: Tanya Patterson
The top tools would be: cleaning your home (especially windows), making the entry to your home is as impactful as possible (first impressions matter), ensuring the front yard is neat, and well-groomed, and removing any unnecessary furniture to make the home appear as spacious as possible. Staging a home for sale is also huge now. These are pretty basic tips, but they are very important.
What tips do you have for new buyers entering the market?
Making sure you choose the right agent and broker is the best tip. In order to do that, they should ask some important questions:
1) How familiar is the agent with this local market?
2) Does this agent usually work with buyers or sellers?
3) How long have they been in real estate?
It’s a personality job, so you want to make sure you’re working with someone who fits your personality. If you’re an accountant for example, find a realtor who’s a great numbers person.
How did you get your start in real estate?
I loved looking at homes and walking through new developments with model homes to show. As a mom, I also wanted an opportunity to work from home and set my own schedule. Ultimately, I wanted flexible hours and real estate fits my desires both personally and professionally. Now, after 20 years in the business, I assist buyers in investing, buying and selling commercial and residential real estate, along with providing property management services.
What do you love best about your job?
I love helping people, helping them attain their real estate goals, be that selling a property, buying one or finding a great investment opportunity. Real estate is not just a home for your family—I love helping people build an environment where they can grow their family and also gain wealth. And that’s really satisfying for me.
How do you spend your free time?
I love to travel, I love to exercise and I love to golf. And believe it or not, I love networking events. I enjoy meeting new people and learning how they became successful. As an owner of a corporation, I am a big business thinker and I like to share my experiences with others. I enjoy working with people who are at the beginning of building their business.
